Challenger Observes Increased Mobile VoIP Acceptance
Challenger Mobile is aware of a change taking place in industry attitudes toward mobile VoIP
deployments. The industry is becoming more receptive toward this technology, a trend verified by Challenger during conversations with operators and service providers.
Challenger Mobile provides end-to-end white label mobile VoIP platforms to wireless operators, content and service providers. It offers software solutions for providers to enter new markets with flexible, scalable systems with low cost of entry, standards based architecture and innovative brand offerings.
“It’s remarkable how quickly perspectives on mVoIP have changed for the positive among the providers. Last Fall we were in the position of having to do all the talking with operators, and most of the industry seemed to be wrestling with the fundamentals of the technology and the market possibilities,” commented Christina Sundman (News - Alert), CEO of Challenger Mobile.
Sundman continued: “Today, most providers are working on their mVoIP strategies and many have trials of some type underway. I fully expect to see 15-20 services launched by established operators during this calendar year.”
Hutchinson 3, branded as 3, and Skype (News - Alert) entered into a partnership according to which Skype users can sign-up for 3G
mobile services on 3’s network besides place Skype Mobile VoIP calls for free. New Internet telephony service plans and strategies were announced by major operators like Vodafone (News - Alert) in Germany, Samsung in Korea and FarEasTone in Taiwan.
Some operators have offered full production service deployments like Singtel’s Mio Mobile service in Singapore and Star Hub’s Pfingo Talk. Sprint (News - Alert) and DoCoMo have announced mobile VoIP-based push-to-talk applications for future pure-play mVoIP services.
Challenger’s white-label mobile VoIP platform allows operators and service providers enter new markets thereby increasing their revenues and market share. The platform allows subscribers to place calls from their mobile phones on the Internet using connections like WiFi (News - Alert), GPRS
or 3G minimizing the barriers for entering as expected in traditional telephony services. This offers operators a strategic way to enter the market.
Challenger’s offering of mobile VoIP services will reduce call volume losses which arises due to subscribers placing long distance or international calls through PC-based VoIP services such as Skype or traditional VoIP networks. Challenger’s Launch program and other hosted solutions allow operators to start and get their own branded Mobile VoIP services running within six weeks.
“We’ve definitely turned a corner, and providers now recognize that mobile IP
telephony isn’t the enemy, and that it can in fact can be a great ally in their quest for expansion,” stated Sundman.
