Telesphere: Mobile Convergence is the Future for VoIP
According to Telesphere’s Director of Channel Sales, Dean Jordan, predictions for VoIP in 2009 include AT&T (News - Alert) buying out Qwest, Sprint, and Verizon, and the Justice Department suing to break them up for the sake of competition.
“We haven’t seen anything like this for close to 25 years,” Dean exclaimed.
With travel costs at an all time high, professionals are increasingly turning to VoIP to enable them to work remotely from their homes. Now, the latest technology trend seems to be mobile VoIP.
Global IP Solutions (GIPS) recently announced its GIPS VoiceEngine Mobile, which allows application developers to integrate high-quality, real-time VoIP on Apple’s (News - Alert) iPhone. With this solution, iPhone users can benefit from services such as real-time, in-game, multi-person chat. So, what does this mean for the future of VoIP?

I had the opportunity to discuss the communications market with Dean in advance of his speaking at the upcoming ITEXPO (News - Alert), which takes place in Los Angeles this September 16 -18, 2008. For more information on Dean’s presentation at the ITEXPO, please visit: Deploying Hosted VoIP.
RT: What has been your company’s biggest achievement in 2008 so far?
DJ: Telesphere has seen tremendous growth locally and nationally. We have successfully launched our second market in Las Vegas and are expanding into our third market with the launch scheduled for late September. With a recent investment of over $10M, we expect this growth to continue for the next few years.
RT: What can we expect to see for from your company for the next 12 months?
DJ: Telesphere will continue to grow our local market footprints and build out of our national infrastructure. We will continue to invest in the emerging technologies that will best support our VoIP platform, MPLS and VPLS in the core, and distributed hosted and managed complimentary services.
RT: How do you see the communications market evolving?
DJ: Convergence (News - Alert) will continue to be a driving force in our space and more and more businesses will be educated on the benefits of hosted platforms in a converged environment. The main concern is a single access medium failing and completely taking down a company; hosted is the answer to this concern.
RT: What company made the biggest contribution to communications this year?
DJ: Broadsoft introducing its connections program has been one that will allow for the integration of many hosted and desktop applications into the VoIP environment and this will lead to many major contributions that will benefit all types of industries with specifically targeted applications.
RT: How has Google changed our markets?
DJ: The ability to be readily identified on a Google search affects marketing and branding. It requires a specialized marketing approach to ensure prospective customers are attracted and directed to your company’s site.
RT: How about Apple?
DJ: Not much, but it makes the consumers more interested in technology at their finger tips.
RT: What mobile phone(s) do you use?
DJ: Blackberry
RT: Who will win in an Apple/RIM war?
DJ: Ultimately the consumer will win as more and more functionality makes it to the market, both will most likely be viable and for different functional desires of the consumer.
RT: What do you think the communications market might look like in five years?
DJ: The forecast for larger access speeds will work in concert with the trend of convergence, and a hosted platform will be the desired medium as a result. Just as Web-based applications have become the norm, hosted communication services and convergence with mobile devices will soon be the de facto standard. There are far too many contingencies that are covered by a hosted solution that can’t be cost effectively duplicated by most businesses.
RT: What will attendees learn about in your session at ITEXPO this September?
DJ: They will learn about the benefits of a hosted and managed approach to voice communication and the integration with mobile devices. They will also learn how to manage all of their communication resources in the most cost effective manner while increasing functionality to the end user.
RT: What type of attendees do you think should come to your session?
DJ: The session should be attended by IT professionals and business owners that are looking to implement VoIP, MPLS, and or VPLS in the next few years.
RT: Why should customers choose your company’s solutions?
DJ: Telesphere has taken business communications to the next level and now provides a fully hosted private IP solution where the intelligence of the system is hosted in a secure central location and monitored 24 hours a day – 7 days a week by Telesphere staff. The solution gives companies all the features and efficiencies of an IP PBX without the outside cost of purchasing the equipment. The capability eliminates all upfront capital costs and independent maintenance and the need for additional resources to care for the system. In short, Telesphere provides companies with the most reliable, powerful and feature-rich services available today.
