BigBand Partners, Verimatrix Eye Secure Ad Insertion
BigBand Networks reportedly has announced interoperability between its recently unveiled media services platform, the BigBand MSP2000, and Verimatrix‘s Video Content Authority System.
TV advertising is a great way to reach the masses. But with the traditional approach to advertising, advertisers do not get the much needed flexibility and adaptability to display their advertisements. This often results in advertisers spending their money at the wrong place and at the wrong time.
Now, BigBand seeks to end this problem with its MSP2000. With this product, service providers can offer TV advertising in a larger scale, company officials say. From national to regional to zoned to fully targeted, BigBand’s MSP2000 provided powerful ad insertion capabilities enabling flexible advertising models.
“Content protection is a vital part of the service provider ecosystem,” said John Reister, BigBand’s chief IPTV (News - Alert) architect. “In partnership with Verimatrix, we can now produce MPEG-compliant content streams including seamless ad insertions. As a result, our network-based MSP2000 platform makes it easier and more cost-effective for service providers to achieve ad revenue goals with their existing architectures and customer premises equipment.”

Often advertisers face their biggest hurdles in encrypting and decrypting the ads. BigBand’s MSP2000 – pictured right – claims to eliminate this stumbling block by enabling ad insertion into encrypted streams. Now, there is no need to make changes to set-top boxes or other customer premises equipment.
BigBand says the company manages the juggle between flexibility and security concerns by locating the splicing nearer to the edge of the operator’s network. It also supports enhanced interoperability on behalf of service providers for targeted advertising and other personalized services.
The MSP2000 works in both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4/H.264 formats. If an advertiser can directly insert ads into encrypted streams, he can look to improve the operational efficiency of ad targeting and also maintain the security of programming content.
In addition to the Medial Services Platform, BigBand also provides other services. Earlier this year, BigBand announced a deal with Incognito, where Incognito arranged to purchase the FastFlow BMP assets from BigBand. This deal allowed BigBand to focus on boosting its position in the digital video networking market.
