Verizon Wireless Network Expands Coverage in Sussex County, New Jersey

Verizon (News - Alert) Wireless announced the activation of a newest cell site in Highland Lakes, New Jersey. This new Sussex County cell site will improve network coverage and capacity along Wawayanda Road from Lakeside Drive to Hickory Road allowing easier and faster wireless calling, text, picture and video messaging, surfing and accessing of turn-by-turn directions.

“Reliable networks aren't built overnight,” noted Pat Devlin, president of the company's New York/New Jersey Metro Region. "Today's wireless customers demand so much more than voice service, and this network expansion reflects our ongoing commitment to stay ahead of the curve. New and exciting multimedia devices, like the new enV2 by LG for on-the-go texters and music fans equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard, now enable customers to carry PC- functionality in the palms of their hands. We will continue to efficiently invest in network enhancements to deliver the most reliable voice, data and multimedia services available.”

To stay ahead of the demand curve, Verizon Wireless has been regularly investing in expanding its network both for coverage and capacity. The company has invested in more than $45 billion across the nation since its inception including upwards of $2 billion that it invested to enhance its New York/New Jersey Metro network.

The demand for company’s various services is growing with addition of 1.5 million new customers in the first quarter of 2008 alone. Verizon Wireless claims to have more than 67.2 million customers nationwide accessing its various services like voice, data and mobile entertainment. It provides audible turn-by-turn directions and real time traffic information through VZ Navigator, broadcast quality mobile television through V CAST Mobile TV, and V CAST Music which allows customers to download full songs directly to their V CAST-capable wireless phones and Microsoft (News - Alert) Windows XP-based PCs.

Verizon Wireless performs real-life testing of its network using 98 specially equipped vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with computers to automatically make more than three million voice call attempts and more than 16 million data tests on Verizon Wireless' network and the networks of other carriers. By covering nearly one million miles each year on Interstate, US and state highways as well as major roads and surface streets in high- population areas, Verizon Wireless ensures through this thorough testing that voice calls and data connections are successful on the first attempt and stay connected. Any weak spot is a potential expansion candidate.
