Nuance Unveils Voice Search Prototype On iPhone

Nuance Communications, a speech solution provider, has introduced a ground-breaking prototype for voice search capabilities shown on the Apple iPhone (News - Alert).

The prototype, code-named “OVS” for open voice search, will allow mobile operators to offer simple ‘say anything’ search capabilities and is search engine agnostic, able to link to any search engine of an operator’s choosing.

The newly designed application introduces a new, more compelling consumer and search experience.

With the help of Nuance (News - Alert) speech recognition servers, mobile consumers can simply speak requests into their phone like, “Find the Apple store in Boston, Massachusetts,” “Score of the Boston Celtics game,” or “Play Hannah Montana Best of Both Worlds” to quickly and accurately search the mobile Web or in the future dictate an IM, SMS or e-mail message.

Nuance’s technologies, applications and services make the user experience more compelling by transforming the way people interact with information and how they create, share and use documents. Every day, millions of users and thousands of businesses experience Nuance’s proven applications and professional services.

In May, Nuance Communications announced that it closed the acquisition of eScription, a provider of computer aided medical transcription software.

The combination of Nuance and eScription will broaden the capabilities of the Dictaphone Healthcare division to deliver scalable solutions and future innovations to the rapidly growing market for speech-enabled clinical documentation.

In addition to significantly improving the way patient data is captured, processed and used, the combined company’s offerings will help healthcare organizations meet mounting industry pressures, such as spiraling costs, a shrinking pool of domestic medical transcriptionists, and regulations for fully integrated electronic medical records.

As a pioneer in Computer Aided Medical Transcription, eScription’s software, including patented technology, is based on the simple premise that it is faster to edit than to type.

With its products deployed enterprise-wide at healthcare organizations throughout the United States, eScription is helping streamline processes, speed turnaround time, and save costs of medical transcription, without interfering with clinician workflow.
