NetMotion Intros Datastrip Biometric Terminals Mobile VPNDatastrip handheld identification and verification devices can now be enabled with NetMotion Wireless’ (News - Alert) Mobility XE Mobile VPN protection, the companies announced today.
Users of Datastrip DSVII-SC biometric terminals can leverage the software-only VPN to experience secure, continuous remote access to network resources and applications over any wired or wireless IP-based network, company officials say.
According to the companies, Datastrip’s DSVII-SC is equipped with Mobility XE software, and it will seamlessly interface with most state and municipal networks to provide secure wireless data transmission for first responders while they are in transit, even through gaps in network coverage. Officers at a major police department in Louisiana are already using Datastrip DSVII-SCs equipped with Mobility XE software, company officials say.
Joe Delaney, Datastrip’s vice president of sales and marketing, said that NetMotion is clearly the leader in their field, and they are thrilled to have this agreement in place to work with them for the long term. The deal helps government entities put mobile biometrics to work in critical applications with peace of mind that their networks and data are secure, officials say.
As Mobility XE software is also validated for FIPS 140-2, it meets federal government standards for cryptography. When Mobility XE is integrated with an automated fingerprint identification system, it offers the ability to rapidly identify individuals by securely comparing data against secured credentials, a local database and remote AFIS networks. The AFIS can provide remote and timely access to fingerprints, facial images and individual records, according to company sources.
By integrating with AFIS, Datastrip’s two-pound DSVII-SC provides a mobile component, according to the company. The DSVII-SC provides ID verification by reading contact and contactless chips on identification documents such as ID cards, driver’s licenses and other ID initiatives. These biometric terminals combine a contact and contactless smart card reader, a 500-dpi fingerprint sensor for instant biometric matching, and a large color digital touchscreen display readable in direct sunlight or low light conditions , all in a compact Windows CE.NET (News - Alert) unit.
Seattle-based NetMotion Wireless provides software that enables businesses and agencies to maintain and optimize connections to applications as their mobile workers move in and out of wireless coverage areas and across various networks.
