Openwave Intros New Internet Services for Mobile OperatorsOpenwave solutions, a provider of software applications and infrastructure, announced two new additions to its portfolio of services for the mobile industry: Openwave Passport and Openwave OpenMedia. Both services are aimed at increasing Web traffic and enhancing the experience of customers accessing the Internet on mobile phones.
Openwave Passport allows operators to offer on-demand Internet access to mobile users through time-based options. This service is particularly useful for subscribers who wish to use the Internet while roaming, without having to sign up for contract-based plans. The service also tracks user transactions and gives operators the ability to use this information to offer targeted services to subscribers.
Openwave OpenMedia adapts rich content to a format that is suitable for handsets. It resizes images, Web pages, media files, etc., for easier viewing on a mobile device regardless of the format of the content. This service works on any mobile platform and is complimentary to Openwave’s existing OpenWeb service for reformatting mobile content.
“Openwave’s mobile internet services set a new industry standard for experiencing the web on a mobile device, and are driving new opportunities through support of ‘pay as you go’ mobile internet and service subscription signup models,” said Sean MacNeill, vice president and general manager for service management and global services atOpenwave, in a statement.
MacNeill added that operators should leverage new opportunities and provide an enhanced experience to customers through value added services in order to thrive in today’s market.
“It is not only crucial for operators to deliver subscribers the best possible mobile Internet experience, but it is also imperative that they add value to the burgeoning off-net world as a way to remain a part of the value chain,” said John Delaney, research director at IDC’s (News - Alert) European consumer mobile division.
